“The Face of Victory” – Tara

Got the Nerve? Sprint Triathlon

Meet Tara.  Tara is a #dangerouslyawesome Mama that has an incredible Wonder Woman tattoo on her right forearm.  Tara is no joke.  Tara’s body does whatever Tara’s mind says it should do.  Tara is a gifted therapist, mother, and athlete.  But most of all, Tara stands for truth, for love, and for the betterment of her community and the world.  Thank you, Tara . Thank you for being a Trailblazer of Awesomeness and allowing us to watch you blossom throughout your journey!

We hope you enjoy Tara’s beautifully simple and raw reflection of the grit and guts it took to make it 20 miles through the pouring rain.

Tara got the nerve

This. This is the face of victory. Screaming out loud that I was finished.

This. This is the face of TRUE victory. Saturday sucked. I felt like giving up swimming against a current in freezing water with pouring rain adding to the mix. I took 10 minutes to transition to the bike because all of my stuff was tied up in a plastic bag (imagine putting on socks, outside, wet, in a rainstorm).

This. Gives me motivation to go against the toughest of situations and know I can achieve success.

By the time I got halfway through the bike (around mile 8) my sneakers were filled with water. I continuously dumped water out of my windbreaker for the rest of the ride. I’m happy I decided to wear a hat under my helmet because I watched the rain drip off the front of my hat the whole 16 miles. After that, I started the 5K. I could hear each. soaked. step…. At that point I really couldn’t feel my legs, or even care. I have never done anything like this in my life. Yes, I’ve ran races and completed triathlons, but never under these conditions. 3 days later I’m still recovering and trying to grasp what actually happened.

This. I will remember for the rest of my life.

This face, these flaws, these imperfections…they all mean I have the opportunity for growth. That makes it all worth it.
