Good news for me- I took my own advice and got myself organized so I can start a solid training plan for these upcoming September events. Today I took baseline data. We took a family bike ride on the Schuylkill River Trail into Valley Forge National Park. Because we had the kids, we didn’t go too fast or far. There was some whining and complaining (mostly from Middle Guy who is 10 and has grown out of his bike), 2 wipeouts (Middle Guy again), extreme thirst (Middle Guy), and lots of stopping (you know who). That said, we got in a comfortable 10 miles and while Hubs packed up the car to go home, I ran two miles. Here’s how it shook out:
Bike Ride (mostly flat & I paused RunKeeper when we stopped): 10 miles in roughly 1:10:00
I’ll take it. I am ashamed to say I haven’t been on my bike in over a year so this is actually really good for me and I’m feeling more much more confident than last week. I actually feel like I might be able to do this and live to tell about it.
And….. I’m super thankful to have a family that supports and participates in my training. These cuties are my biggest fans and I theirs in return. I really appreciate that they even got a little history lesson about the encampment at Valley Forge this afternoon. All in all, a very good day!
